Our history
The Austin Police Benevolent Foundation has been helping officers and their families for nearly two decades. In 2006, the Austin Police Association’s board of directors voted to create a non-profit police benevolent organization (at the time, they called it “Austin Cops for Charities”). The goal of the organization aimed to help Austin Police Officers find ways to give back to the community they serve.
Nearly twenty years later, the organization has assisted, and continues to assist, hundreds of officers in tragic situations—including the deaths and impairments of APD family members, unforeseen financial hardships, medical bills, funeral expenses, and other bonafide emergencies.
Since its creation, the organization has prioritized immediate assistance to the families of our honorable officers killed in the line of duty: Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron (EOW 2012), Lieutenant Clay Crabb (EOW 2013), Senior Police Officer Amir-Abdul-Khaliq (EOW 2016), Officer Lewis “Andy” Traylor (EOW 2021), Senior Police Officer Randolph Boyd Jr. (EOW 2021), Sergeant Steve Urias (EOW 2021), Senior Police Officer Eric Lindsey (EOW 2021), Senior Police Officer Anthony Martin (EOW 2022), and Senior Police Officer Jorge “George” Pastore (EOW 2023), and other local-area law enforcement officers who did not come home.
With a goal to expand its strength and abilities, the organization was re-named “Austin Police Benevolent Foundation” in 2024. The organization is led by a board of directors comprised of active duty officers, retired officers, and honoree civilians.
